COLOR SCHEMES
When designing or remodeling rooms in your home, it is essential that you research color schemes. A paint scheme can say a lot about you or the functionality of the room that it is used in. Is this modern or retro? Do you want a classic look or a new age style? Are you looking for clean lines and simple colors, or for a textured feel with rich tones? All of this is tied to the color scheme you choose. You can even make a smaller room look bigger with simple choices in your paint or accents. There are a few basic things to keep in mind when picking out your color scheme.
Complementary Color Scheme

Complementary colors are across from each other on the color wheel. (see the color scheme designer) Reds are across from greens, blues across from oranges and so on. These colors, as their names suggests generally compliment each other well. Complementary color schemes generally suggest energy as the contrast between the colors, especially at full end of their saturation create a vibrant feel, exuding energy.
Analogous Color Scheme

Analogous colors are located adjacent to each other on the color wheel. Analogous themes can be harmonious and soothing, or also bright an cheery. The analogous themes are often found in nature, so if a room wanting that feel definitely benefits from that type of paint scheme. Analogous schemes flow very well and therefore are able to accommodate moods as they change. Be sure to focus on a single color as the main attribute and use the secondary hues as accent or highlight colors.
Neutral Color Scheme

Neutral hues are naturally soothing, making them quite popular choices for any room in your home. The base pigments in a neutral scheme are often white, beige and brown. The scheme is flushed out by variations on those colors to create a natural, earthen and pleasing setting. Add black or white as you see fit to expand and enhance the color range. These schemes are great for any time of year and help bring out both natural and artificial lights. Neutrals palettes become Accented Neutral palettes with the additional of a singular color. As this color is the largest variation in the scheme it really pops when setup like this.
Monochromatic Color Scheme

Monochromatic styling when it comes to paint can provide any room with a sleek and contemporary feel. You base the scheme on a singular color, varying it by hue, tint or saturation, and then surround or accent that choice with shades of blacks, whites and grays. This kind of paint scheme is perfect for painting rooms in schemes that reflect the seasons. Cool blues are great in the summer and warm orange tones can suit the fall. Yellows are great for spring and greens are an excellent representation of fall.
